Gonna tell you about my baby 'Cause I love her so. She loves to travel unfamiliar roads She doesn't like the interstate She doesn't like that scene. Cars packed in just like sardines My back road mama drives a fast machine. Gonna tell you about my baby She's the best She travels north, south, east and west When she's motor-vatin she always has a blast She puts the pedal to the medal and she guns the gas My back road mama she's the best. You know their's a thousand ways to go Off the beaten path and down the road. She'll show you things you've never seen before She's my back road mama and I love her so. So don't talk about your lady if you think she's boss 'Cause my baby never gathers moss You better not be blinkin' when she passes by She'll be in Albuquerque by a quarter to nine My back road mama's gonna leave a little dust in your eye.

Back Home 03:31
The French Broad looks mighty fine When it hits the sun I like to see those dappled waves When the new day has begun. Reminds me of my homeland So far away Now I've got a new land Where I believe I'll stay "Cause I feel at home In these hills So blue, So green, so brown And all the rivers runnin' through This old river town (chorus) Back Home-to that smoky mountain range Back Home-To my baby's smiling face Back Home-Well I'll never leave again When I get back home. When I learn to play my mandolin I might join a bluegrass band I love to hear those wooden strings Comin' straight out of the land Listen to the radio And all the history Make it down to Market Square And Gay Street.

Now is a good time to come together. I'd like to be an eagle in your sky. I always knew we were birds of a feather Now is the time for us to fly. The earth is a ball that spins around From the Eiffel Tower back to your hometown. Let the sun shine on your day Like a rainbow through the haze. We're all in this together. Birds of a feather. Now is the time for new beginnings A time to see which way we want to go. Is it love, or is it hate we'll be bringing. Can we see which way the river flows. We'll never find the answer in a book. But deep within the soul of humankind In every minute, in every hour In every petal of a flower In every shuttered street we will walk down. In every hometown. Can you see what I see Can we share the same dreams Even thought we are apart We can love with the same heart I believe..

I know that you Can make it through alive I know that life At times can be a trial But we'll make it through You've got me and I've got you. When the captain says Full speed ahead With fire in his eyes The furnace stoked You grab that rope With all the fiber of life. And when that whistle blows Babe, you're not alone I want to make it clear. I want all our fears to be gone They'll dissipate Like mist on a lake When the sun comes rollin' along. Shining through the haze Bringing a brand new day.

Canvas 03:23
When you paint by freehand In a paint by numbers world It's hard to get the colors right. You're the canvas My lovely blue eyed girl You know you're always on my mind. I'm livin' in between You're eyes of blue and green I'm swimming or I'm drowning in your love. Can I make your dream come true Like I know you want me to I would love to learn to try Before my colors all run dry When you paint by numbers You have to stay within the lines The end result is always well defined That's all right, if that's what you're into I'd rather throw my paint against the sky I'd rather dabble in a creek Turn a day into a week Walk beside an old railroad line And the water blue and cold Our spirits true and bold That would be a canvas I'd believe I'd want you right here with me
6.
I know a place where I can go When I want to take it slow Away from the city streets Where the sidewalks pumpin' heat on me Away from the traffic jams Take me to another land and set me free Take the path down to the river Watch the big birds fly across It's a place where you can rest your heart and mind A stone's throw from the city But it feels like a million miles away Look at what I've found Heaven on the ground A great part of this town I know You can touch the sky Watch the world float by With your piece of heaven on the ground I try to think of what I can be With the rest of this life that's left to me The path is straight ahead There's still so much left to do I can see the river through the trees I hear a new song I feel the breeze it's true Take the path down to the river Watch the big birds fly across It's a place where you can rest your heart and mind A stone's throw from the city But it feels like a million miles away
7.
You've been wandering through a desert of your choice Your mouth moves, but you can't hear your voice Memories of love that you once had Someday, you hope to get love back But you just spend your days Watching the parade of life go by (chorus) Can you be in my dreams and I'll be in yours Can you learn to love with all your heart Can you sail on the sea and not change course Can you see the journey's end before you start Her eyes were like diamonds At night you could them shining After all these years you still remember that girl Sometimes at night you wonder If there hadn't been such blunders Maybe you'd be living in a different world But you can't go back in time To live those years gone by You gotta move on (chorus)

Together 03:36
You've got a smile A thousand miles wide When you walk into a room Darkness finds a place to hide I fulfilled my dream On the day that we first met And it's hard to believe All the ways we've been blessed Don't need to wait 'till next year Everything I need is right here In this moment right now I'm so glad we're together My love for you is forever We'll make this world so much better Now that we are together. You've got a laugh That fills the air like singing birds And it's such an easy task to write down these loving words It's time to explore A world filled with open doors But the biggest world we can find Is the love that is yours and mine Let's walk upon a sandy beach Let ocean kiss our feet Look up at the stars above If I could I'd give each one to you

Melancholy Moon flying Across a troubled sky Trying to find a cloud to hide behind Melancholy Moon shines on me Shines on you Melancholy Moon keeps shining Drivin' around my neighborhood Runnin' out of gas Victorians gaze upon me From the glory of their past Columns, spires and gables Need to fix those window panes Roof needs a couple of shingles It's letting in the rain. Trying to make sense of today's events Gonna be a strain We can't start a conversation Without calling each other names I seem to die a little more When I watch the evening news And the only light that shines on me Is that melancholy moon We've been through worse It's not our first rodeo We always find a way to walk together On that long and bumpy road The moon shines down from high up In the star studded sky When it goes through a cloud It comes out the other side.

I used to wake up, hold my head in pain Every sunny day was filled with rain You might as well have called my Dr. Doom Spent too much time inside my room You live like that and you're living all alone Might as well throw away your telephone (chorus) You should reach for the stars in the sky Teach yourself how to fly You've been carrying a heavy load on your back You shouldn't let your backbone crack. You're tired of playing the same old blues So here's an optimistic tune. I've been kicking old habits in the teeth All the ones that were never good for me I'm trying to find a way to shine In this world I might as well call mine I'm not asking for too much I'd like to throw away my crutch (chorus)

about

A collection of songs written over the past several years. It's a mixed bag of genres-folk, blues, country. There's a humorous song about Chewbacca the wookie. Sad songs. Wistful songs. A love song about my wife.
